What is Taize'? Taize' worship originated at the Taize' Community in France in 1940 as an ecumenical Christian monastic community of both Catholics and Protestants. Taize' worship is composed of simple songs or chants, usually in English or Latin, and silent prayer.
It may also include readings from scripture.
Singing is one of the most essential elements of worship.
Short songs, repeated again and again, give it a meditative character.
The words themselves melt away and the sacred is experienced.
This meditative singing thus becomes a way of listening to God.
Silent prayer is also an essential part of a Taize' service, where the stillness and the space encourage attending to God's presence with us.
