Session Highlights 2016

 
At its stated meeting on December 18th the Session took the following actions:
– Approved the examinations of elders-elect Melissa Druff, Cliff Gilchrest, Troy Kurtz, John Sayers, Laura Stahl, and Terry Westhafer
– Accepted the resignation of Isabel Turner as elder-elect
– Approved the Ministry Information Form submitted by the APNC
– Approved a budget for 2017 in the amount of $522,000
– Approved reallocation of Outreach funds to support an international fresh water project
– Called a congregational meeting for Sunday, January 8th for the purpose of acting on changes to the Pastor’s terms of call and to elect an elder to fill a vacancy in the class of 2019 for one year

 

At its stated meeting on November 20th the Session took the following actions:
  • Approved a wedding request
  • Heard a report on the November presbytery meeting
  • Elected Darlene Schneck and Bill von Seldeneck as commissioners and Tom Compton as alternate to the February meeting of presbytery
  • Approved proposals for landscaping and repairs to the church building

 

At its stated meeting on October 16th the Session took the following actions:
  • Approved a request from Presbyterian Women to sell anniversary cookbooks on October 23 and 30
  • Received the financial review/audit and its recommendations
  • Called a congregational meeting for October 30 for the purpose of electing elders in the Class of 2019 and an APNC
  • Approved a TOW fundraiser for Verona Food Pantry for November 2
  • Approved purchase of new ovens for the Great Hall kitchen

 

At its stated meeting on September 18th the Session took the following actions:
+  Approved guest preachers for September 25
th (Jack Wilkers) and October 9th (Melissa Harmon) and a pulpit exchange with Westminster Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro for November 13th
(April Cranford)

+  Approved a preliminary budget for 2017 in the amount of $547,061

+  Elected Mandy Drumheller and Brandon Cline-Taskey as commissioners to the November meeting of presbytery

+  Approved having photographs taken for preschool students as a fundraiser with the proceeds to go to the Nancy Summers Scholarship Fund

 

At its stated meeting on August 21st the Session took the following actions:
  • Acknowledged with gratitude a bequest from the estate of Lois Dill
  • Received a report about the August meeting of Shenandoah Presbytery
  • Approved development of a faith-based nursing program
  • Approved a plan for online giving for the church and online payment for the preschool
  • Approved designation of funds for Red Cross disaster assistance in WV
  • Approved a proposal for trimming of trees
  •  Approved a plan for church staffing

 

At its stated meeting on 
June 19th 
the Session took the following actions:
  • Elected Bill Terry and Becky Earhart commissioners and Ruth Arnold and Brandon Cline-Taskey alternates to the August 13 meeting of presbytery
  • Approved the hiring of a new assistant teacher in the Preschool 1 class
  • Approved the purchase of new NRSV pew Bibles
  • Approved dates for 2017 Children’s Sunday and Youth Sunday
  • Approved the repainting and refurnishing of the Senior High and Middle School youth rooms
  • Approved guidelines for social media
 
At its stated meeting on May 15th  the Session took the following actions:
  • Reviewed the rolls and removed from the active membership rolls those members who have been inactive and unresponsive to church communications
  • Approved a baptism for Jonathan Griffith at a date to be determined
  • Approved a letter of transfer for Sandra Garrison
  • Received a report on the May meeting of presbytery
  • Approved guest preachers for May 29 and June 26
  • Approved a goodwill offering of paper products for YoungLives
  • Approved Habitat for Humanity as a recipient for VBS project donations

 

At its stated meeting on April 17th the Session took the following actions:

  • Heard statements of faith from Jayden Beasley, Harrison Dunay, Matthew Riddell, Jackson Sheets, Julia Stahl, and Zoe Stahl, and  received them into membership by profession of faith.
  • Approved the Long-Range Plan for 2016-2020
  • Elected Robyn Sommerfield as commissioner and Bill Terry as alternate to the May meeting of presbytery
  • Approved four requests for baptisms
  • Approved revisions to the child protection policy for use in the preschool
  • Approved a single combined worship for five special Sundays: Children’s Sunday, Mission Sunday, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and Elder Ordination and Installation Sunday

 

At its stated meeting on March 20th  the Session took the following actions:
  • Reviewed the first draft of the Long-Range Plan
  • Received a report on the February 23rd meeting of Presbytery
  • Elected Rosalie Fessier and Roller Shipplett to the Memorial/Endowment Committee Class of 2018
  • Approved supply preachers for April 3rd and 17th
  • Approved distribution of Outreach funds from the 2015 surplus

 

At its stated meeting on February 21st  the Session took the following actions:
*  Approved the PCUSA statistical report for 2016
*  Elected Amy Diduch and Sally Griffith  as commissioners to the February 23rd called meeting of presbytery
*  Approved communion dates for 2016
*  Approved a potluck with missionary speakers for May 4, 2016
*  Approved allocation of the 2015 budget surplus
*  Approved a proposal for the March 2nd  Taizé service
*  Approved use of the facility for the 2016 Rotary Children’s Christmas Party
 
 

At its stated meeting on January 16th, the Session took the following actions:

  • Adopted Session priorities for 2016
  • Approved a facilities use request from Allen Chapel
  • Approved transfers of membership for Punkie Wood and Brenda Neff
  • Approved team assignments for 2016 and elected Paul Sorrell, Tom Bellamy, and Amy Diduch as trustees by virtue of their Session office
  • Elected Lee Clark and Mixon Darracott as commissioners and Bill von Seldeneck as alternate to the February meeting of Shenandoah Presbytery
